For those of us who have a loved one who’s struggled with mental health issues or perhaps you personally battle some form on the spectrum of mental illness; anxiety, depression, PTSD, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, OCD, among others; we don’t need a reminder.
It’s not a month, it’s Every. Day.
In saying that, however, I’m very thankful for the effort by many organizations and nonprofits to bring awareness to this illness that currently affects 1 in 5 adults in just our nation alone.
This illness that no one asks for just like no one asks for cancer or diabetes.
This illness that can bring a stigma and silent shame.
This illness that claimed my son’s life.
Like most of us, we don’t give a rip about something until it “rips” you or someone you love apart.
When Garrett was alive, I couldn’t speak freely nor publicly about his condition; that was his private, personal story.
But, now I can and I will.
About his journey. About his music.
About his Life.
With Love. With Hope.
My blog is titled, “Broken, but beautiful ”, lyrics taken from one of his songs, Sunshine Maker.
“I see the world broken, but beautiful...”
My son. So broken at times, but oh, so very beautiful. 💔
